Organization description: The Department of microbiology is equipped to carry out the traditional culture test in the bacteriology, mycology and parasitology, but also makes the most innovative molecular tests for the diagnosis of infectious diseases. It is particularly relevant in the diagnosis of viral hepatitis (A, B, C, Delta, G) and HIV infection. It has cutting-edge equipments for rapid diagnosis of bacterial culture and mycobacterial infections (tuberculosis and other mycobacteriosis). It is also specialized in the control of resistance to antibiotics (for bacteria and mycobacteria) and antiretroviral (HIV) with the use of modern technologies and equipment. The Laboratory, which is running the BSL- 4 laboratory, has the role of reference center at the national level for Anthrax, SARS, Influenza viruses, infective outbreaks, at European level for (as a partner of European Commission, UNICRI and JRC Ispra) the management of projects of Instrument for Stability 1 and Instrument for Stability 2.

Project Title / Acronym: EUBIOMO
Project Description: The scope of the project is to provide an accurate study for the development of an appropriate mobile BSL-4 laboratory to accommodate biological & chemical safety / high containment for a range of missions, applications and local conditions, taking into account that the cost and the building time is at least half when compared for building such a facility in the conventional method. The mobile BSL-4 laboratory is capable of being deployed worldwide at short notice and deliverable by air, land, or sea. This mobile BSL-4 laboratory can play a crucial role in public health and national security. A rapid response to natural and accidental outbreaks of disease and potential terrorist threats could be assured.
Partner Sougth / Expertise required: Research partners,centers of excellence,institutes,universities,corporations,Industry partners from EU. Expertise in: biosafety engineering, biosafety/biosecurity risk assessment, biosafety/biosecurity risk management, biosafety/biosecurity environmental monitoring. More precisely we need a partner able to provide a cost/time-effectiveness analysis of mobile BSL-4 laboratories when compared with traditional BSL-4 facilities.
